To get your site listed on Google front page, Google asks you to have many back links to your website. I think that is only a limited thinking as far as future of SEARCH ENGINE is concerned.
In my opinion, Google has got a mindset that mainly thinks about web as blogs, articles, news and static information pages... Sometimes Google neglects new dynamic sites with very rich & useful content which can help the users in a more productive way. And it takes 8 to 12 months plus all those white & black hat backlinks methods to appear on Google.
Let me put an example here to show you the usefulness of Google’s backlinks technique. No matter how spammy your site is, but you are still on top. Just Search “crack serial matt cutts v 2.4” on Google.

So talking about back links, I have seen many webmasters buying too many domains names and linking to their original sites. Let’s take an example of some travel site. Let's say, there is a site that provides "hotel bookings in Melbourne”. Now, the webmaster of this website does not have enough money to market this site or tell that world that he has really got a decent tool for hotel booking comparison. Then he starts buying all those different domain names i.e. BookHotelMel, BookAccomodationFast, TravelMebourneNow, ComeToMelbourne, StayIn MelbourneOnWeekend etc.....Out of all hundred domains there is only one site that provides real bookings and rest of 99 sites are just dummy sites with the keywords related to hotel booking and linking back to the original site.
Isn't Google inspiring spam by asking webmasters to have more and more back links. And the fact is that there are millions of sites which have zero usefulness on the web but waste users' time and spam the search engine.
There should be a different ideology to be followed by the Google. I know its results are good and I use Google hundreds of time every day. But I don’t really agree with the philosophy of spammy back links.
An alternative way of making the web better could be to hire volunteers from all around the Globe (like dmoz) to check the usefulness of a website and score it. Then you take average of all scores given to a website and assign a page rank. This factor might not matter the most but at least it should be a factor in site rank.
Or a user can simply score a website by using Google toolbar. Or there could be thousands of other ways of scoring it. But please Google, stop all these spammy sites appearing on front page.
What do you suggest?
